![]() On the first night, we chose to eat at O Prego da Peixaria, which was actually a restaurant that I had planned to go to anyway. All the restaurants have been hand picked by editors and critics from all over the world ranging from street food style restaurants to some that have gourmet food. It’s basically a huge (super cool) warehouse with a massive central seating area lined with a whole host of some of the best restaurants in Lisbon. It opened in 2014 and now welcomes over 2 million visits a year and is Lisbons number 1 tourist attraction (how crazy is that)! Time Out Market is Time Out’s flagship food market (they’re opening another one in London this year and I can’t tell you how excited we are about that). I know right?! We ate there 2 out of 3 nights (the first night we just cooked in our airbnb) and haven’t stopped thinking about the Time Out Market since. There you can eat a nice seafood, some snacks or sweeten your mouth with some sweets.Of all the places to eat in Lisbon, we only ever ate dinner at the Time Out Market. There is also an esplanade with capacity for 250 people. Next to the Dom Luís square there is a kiosk in the middle of the garden. Stay tuned for the courses and workshops that are organised there and become a Michelin star chef! Are you one of those (like me) who can’t even lay an egg? Well, at the Time Out Market cooking academy there are solutions for all skill levels and for all gastronomies on the planet! Workshops on Moroccan, Korean, Italian, Japanese, Indonesian cuisine and much more! Theatre, concerts and stand-up dominate the show schedule. The market has two spaces where the magic happens: the food hall and the Time Out studio. There you will find a restaurant, a show room with a capacity of 1000 people (350 seats), an art gallery and an information post. The first floor of the Ribeira Market opened its doors in August 2015. There are many, varied and excellent options! Here there are solutions for all mouths: seafood, snacks, fish, steaks, traditional Portuguese cuisine, Asian food, pizzas, sushi, chocolates, delicatessen, soups, bars and more, much more! TIME OUT MARKET – 1st FLOOR EATING AND DRINKING – TIME OUT MARKET IN LISBON The configuration of the space is “sui generis”, a kind of giant canteen with long tables that serve the enormous variety and quantity of stalls (restaurants). The restaurant area is also on the ground floor but on the west side. This is where you will find the freshest fish in Lisbon! This is where many restaurants (and top chefs) stock up on the best the ocean has to offer. On the market as we know it today will be inaugurated. ![]() In 2013 the works of the then called “Time Out Market” will start. In 2013, as a result of works carried out in the Dom Luis square, Roman remains from the 1st to 5th centuries BC are discovered. In 2001, the 1st floor is renovated and an event room and restaurant are built there. In 2000, with the opening of MARL (the supply market for the Lisbon region), the market ceases to be a wholesale market (a wholesale market usually does not work with final consumers). In 1999 the big clock in the market is renewed and the time comes back! In 1983 a large number of new shops were built. In 1980 the bird slaughterhouse that operated there was extinguished. In 1893, a huge fire damaged the east side of the building. In 1755, Lisbon was hit by a huge earthquake that destroyed, among many other things, the Ribeira market building. Over time the space was rebuilt and renovated more than once. It was in the year 1600 that the Market of Ribeira was born in front of the house of Bicos (today José Saramago foundation).
